![]() Ted Dobs one of the more knowledgeable local anglers and former guide said that he would concentrate on bars off the mouth of Oneida Creek, out from North Bay, or out by Shackleton Shoals. But there should still be a good number of fish up in the creeks for some time.Ī lot of the bigger walleye will be hanging around the shoals or off the mouths of streams. In addition, the majority of walleye spawn in the lake anyway. Although there will be lots of anglers up the creeks, especially Fish Creek and the Barge Canal, the larger female walleye will have returned to the lake after spawning. Reports or forecasts vary but most anglers still point to the usual spots. The question is how and where do you put some of these tasty critters in the creel. News is still good with about one million fish swimming around Oneida Lake. Locally the big news is always is always about Oneida Lake and surrounding waters and the opening of the walleye season. Seasonally there is the drop-back of steelhead and the Lake Ontario fishing for brown trout and occasional salmon. It is also the time when the weather gets warmer and the trout fishing gets better along with bullhead or pan fishing. Additonally the tiger muskie or pickerel seasons open up. It is the opening of turkey season, and the for many people the opening of walleye or pike season. Power to charge your phone is provided.May is a tough time for sportsmen.
